About the Sanctuary project

Howdy! May & Mage here! We are building an off grid and primitive sanctuary focused on what some may call rewilding, and I (May) would like to expand upon that a bit. To me, Rewilding, is the stripping away of the excessive and inauthentic layers that we accumulate through our modern social and cultural constructs; these layers contribute to the forgetting of our connection to the nature around us, the nature in us and the nature of us. The Sanctuary is a place where the human kind can disconnect in order to reconnect to nature through reciprocity, stewardship, earth skills, herbalism, and ancestral reverence.

It is with this foundation of a space, our intention is to provide a container for friends and strangers to reside in a likeness of a return to the tribal ashes in urn of the fires that forged our DNA. An honor system of mutual participation that regenerates through our collaboration. The love, time, and energy that is put into this space will surely return back to those that contribute. To this Forest Mage incarnated as Brent Hanvey, I speak with the wholiest expression of conviction that it is our personal mission to foster that exchange.

Land of the Chickasaw and Cherokee, The Sanctuary begins as a portal that extends beyond where the dirt road ends. The county; a location that bares the slogan of "It's just our Nature!", a synchronized affirmation that aligns with our mission. In the town of Linden, named after a tree that spawns a flower commonly used in herbal medicine for it's harmonizing properties. Research shows that Nature fosters connection and compassion, improves learning and memory, all while lowering stress and increasing creativity. It contributes to physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Biologically, we as humans adapt / evolve slower than the rapid rate of technological evolution. Nature itself sees evolution as a long term game, it's a marathon not a sprint. The enormous pressure of the modern world has taken major toll on our nervous system, minds, bodies, and spirits. The slow moving pulse of nature vibrates at a different frequency than the instantaneous demands of a direct message...they saw you read it...you better reply or...drama...exile.

It has left us collectively on airplane mode to our sense of connection and community. Where's your next flight headed? When the hustle and bustle of the modern social and consumer-culture climate does little to nourish you, the sugar rush, endorphin game floats in on the breeze to ease our minds. May you consider unplugging and pausing to listen to your innate wisdom that takes you back to the simplicity of your primitive nature—recorded deep within your DNA.

We are not connected to public or private utilities. This allows us the path to remain as close to nature without disturbing the land or it's inhabitants. The bobcats, turtles, foxes, owls, newts, whippoorwills, fireflies, cedars, maples, oaks... the list of our neighbors grows each instance we pause long enough to allow the forest to speak to us.

How can you support us?

We have started a Patreon to ask for your support. Initial funding will first go toward basic materials for composting toilets, a generator, GPS messenger beacons, solar energy, wood/ supplies for cabin, outdoor kitchen and other structures, water purifier, water storage, road amendments and so on.

Once our baseline operational needs are met we intend to have educational offerings and retreats. As a token of gratitude for your support Patreon subscribers will be eligible for a discount code to these offerings that will be disclosed when that time comes.

Another incentive to your subscription is that we intend to give a percentage of all earnings to a select non-profit organization that is doing the good work in our extended community. That means you are not only helping us build our node in the stewardship network but you will be supporting other initiatives as well.

We intend to offer videos and insights of this journey to our supports while also inviting those to be active participants in cultivating this experience. It takes a village and we call upon you to be apart of this process.

We thank you in advance for your consideration and support. We hope to see you in the forest under the loving embrace of the canopy with the magical whispers of the wind guiding our dreams to cocreate a regenerative and wholly present adventure into our center so that we may carry this wisdom back into our daily lives and beyond.
